And we desire to receive the encouragement God has for us through our Apostle; to fully enjoy the salvation and live the victory of Jesus Christ. Our passage is organized around the States of Christ: Christ’s death, resurrection, and victorious proclamation, and Christ’s ascension, session, and victorious salvation.

Being Zealots of Good - Daniel Holmquist - 1 Peter 3:13-17

Saint Augustine remarked on this Scripture passage: “If you love the good, you will suffer no loss, because whatever you may be deprived of in this world, you will never lose God, who is the true Good.” It is through our Apostle Peter that God shows us the way forward in our high calling of being zealots of good. Keeping our focus on Christ while suffering allows us to see our blessing and empowers us for greater faithfulness. Those eager to do good yet suffering for it need to remember three things: to know and experience God’s blessing, to trust in Christ as Sovereign Lord, and to use the opportunities for witnessing.

He is simultaneously affirming the structures while also subverting them with both new dignities and the uncompromising worship of Jesus Christ alone. Christians should live married live distinctly for the glory of Christ and the good of society. Both wives and husbands, who have been transformed by the Gospel, are encouraged to live it out at home and before the whole world.
